My Not-So-Glamorous Life

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

So if you have read my bio, you already know that I travel all around the country for my job. To a lot of people, this might sound great. Growing up, I would imagine how cool it would be to travel like my big sisters. There's just one big difference... they were singing - I am freaking selling cars!!!!!!

Each week on the road is so hectic and stressful. I rush (sometimes missing flights) to the dealership to set up the sale on Monday. The rest of the week I work from about 8am to 9pm arguing with banks, talking to customers, and keeping our salesmen's heads straight. Staying in a hotel isn't as glamorous as it may sound either. Sometimes we don't get to stay in the nicest of places. Which brings me to one of my most unglamorous stories.....

A couple of weeks ago we were in Bloomington IN. We had a hard time finding a vacant hotel, so we settled with a pretty shady looking place. By about day three, I noticed that my beautiful french manicure was turning lavender. That night, after taking a bath I realized that my towels were also turning purple.

Omar and I googled it. One article popped up about meth - it leaves behind a purple residue when being "cooked." Some guys at the dealership then told us that the hotel had been a meeting place for big drug dealers and there had been some shootings there. Great!! I was bathing in meth! Like I said before... not a very glamorous life!

So, my question to you is : How glamorous or unglamorous is your job?

Good morning Brandy!

I'd like to officially welcome you to SIS.

Glamorous? My day job...not so much. I'm surrounded by cavities, tartar plaque, root canals and periodontal issues. So. Not. Glamorous.

My other job? Writing? Yes, I truly think it is glamorous. Even when I'm sitting at the kitchen island in my sweats, with greasy hair and my 3rd cup of coffee. I mean, come on, what's not glamorous about that? But seriously, the reason I find it glamorous is because it is something I have chosen to do. I don't have to do it, I want to do it.

My 3rd and most important job? Being a mom? For sure! Especially when I have to drain the tub, clean it out and start the bath over again all because "Comedy" pooped in it. GLAMOROUS!

On the list of 'things I'd rather not know about my sisters' that one ranks high! :0) What a story, Brandy! It was kind of gross, definitely scary... So why did I LAUGH?

Welcome to SIS, sis. So glad you're on board.

More about my glamorous (ahem) life later.

Yikes!!! Were you able to find another place to stay?

Oh yeah, my life is SOOOO glamorous. Not. :)

Brandy,

You're an official member now, does that make you feel special?

My job is soooooooooooooo glamorous. Covered daily in paint, thin set, grout, roof tar...ahhh...it doesn't get any better than that. Oh wait! Yes it does! Cleaning out someone's septic lines with a hundred foot snake! Now that's glamorous. As you're reeling it back in, the liquid of a disgusting color is flying everywhere and you try desperately not to let any get on you. Yea! You guessed it. Glamorous. BUT, I do love my job (except for the last part which we very rarely do).
I was glamorous in my last life. Now I'm just creative, but it works for me.

How awful that you were bathing in the remnants of Meth. Unbelievable. I'll bet you never expected to see THAT when you googled it.

I've been thinking about your Meth story all day, Brandy. It all plays out in my mind like a scene in a TV Sitcom. Hey.... Maybe you should try your hand at screenwriting. A TV sitcom based on your Not-So-Glamorous life. Oh, yes. I can just see it. So here's the fun question. What actress would you cast as YOU?

Brandy,

My entrepreneurial mind has been hard at work. I'm thinking you could exfoliate and then sell your skin shavings on the street. People will take that stuff anyway they can get it. Just think, people could smoke your skin. I'm sick, aren't I? It's probably a tacky thought, but I couldn't resist. I thought it was sickly funny.

Bren,

Of course I thought it was funny but I'm sick like that!

If nothing else it could make for a sickly hilarious scene in Brandy's 'Not-So-Glamorous' TV series.

Hey. Maybe I could trail you for a week with my Flip video camera. Reality Video. Surely some network would pick it up. ;)

Hi Brandy, Very funny story. My job is so glamorous that I get to clean up oil that leaks out of thier cars. I do love my job though. I get to meet alot of different people and most are very nice.

BJ, your job may not be glamorous, but it's unique. It's actually a pretty cool gig and you're great at it. I bet you make a lot of people smile--just by being you--and therefore brighten their day. That's kind of how I look at my job at the library. Not glamorous, but I do deal with a lot of nice people AND I make people smile--except for the ones I annoy, but they're typically a card shy of a deck. In the words of Barb, "Whatever."

I have a cool job at the dolphin center. It's fulfilling, often exciting, frequently heartwarming and I love it. Glamorous? Not so much.I love the work wardrobe however -- t-shirt, shorts, sandals.

Has anyone seen the new show The Middle with Patricia Heaton? She's a Midwest mom with three kids and a job at the local car dealership. Very funny.

Oops. Forgot to say, "Welcome, Brandy!" Great first blog.

Mary Stella,

I think they must have stolen my life story for that show. Three kids, midwest, car dealership.... hmmm

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I am glad to be here!!!

Sorry I neglected to comment all day. My glamorous job kept me working till 11pm. I am tired but it was a good day.

The worst part of my job is missing my beautiful girls. I have to tell myself everyday that this will help us have plenty of time together - soon i hope!!

Brenda - nice visual with the snake!!! You will always be glamorous to me.

BJ - I'm too wimpy to handle your job. I couldn't stand the fumes!! I bet you still look cute even cleaning up oil stains

Barb - You are always glamorous!! I can picture how beautiful you will look on the cover of your book.

Beth - I've said for awhile that they need to do a reality show about us. It would be a huge hit. I have some silly characters that travel around with me!! You have truly landed a glamorous job in my mind. A published author.... so amazing!

I love traveling, but I don't think I'd like selling cars. In general, my life is totally unglamorous now!
