TRADITIONS

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Every year in November my small town holds a Downtown Christmas festival. And every year my girls and I go on a Mommy / Daughters date. We don't care how cold it is or if it's raining or snowing. We always have fun no matter the weather.

We start out the night by watching the small parade, eagerly awaiting for Santa to make his entrance. I love watching the excitement in my childrens faces. I'm sure they see the same in mine.

After the parade we walk around town listening to Christmas Carolers and going into all the stores to what fasinating things we can find. Of course we love when those stores have cookies and cider. Who wouldn't like a free treat?

As we are walking around the stores, my girls look for their yearly Christmas ornament. Every year I buy them a new ornament so when they grow up and have their own Christmas Tree they have a good start on the decorations for it. I put their name and year they got it on the back.

When we put up our Christmas Tree we have fun talking about the times we got them. My hope is that they will do the same with their children.

We love the memories that this yearly tradition brings us. I can't wait to add this years memories to them!

My question to you is: Do you have any traditions that you cherish?

Good Morning B.J.

I love traditions!

Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, we put up our Christmas tree. We put in "A Christmas Story" and various other Christmas classics, and watch them as we decorate.

I also buy a Christmas ornament for each of the boys every year. I've done it for both of them since their first Christmas. We get series ornaments from Hallmark, so every year we look forward to going to the Hallmark store to see what their ornament will be. I know that when they are older and decorating their own trees, they will cherish those ornaments and the memories they bring.

Now you've got me excited about putting up my tree!

Have a great day!

I love your traditions!!!

I can't really think of any I have. Unless you count reading 101 Dalmatians (the original pre-Disney book) every year at Christmas. It's set during Christmas. :)

Hi Bren, We watch A Christmas Story every year as well. It is a wonderful movie, so funny. Have fun decorating.

Hi Tori, That is certainly a tradition. My oldest daughter usually goes to her dads for Christmas so on Cristmas Eve I call her and read Twas A Night Before Christmas to her.

Hi BJ,

Those traditions sound very nice. Although I would probably be freezing, if they would permit me to roam the streets with a thermos full of spiked coffee or hot chocolate, I'd attend the Christmas festival with you.

Our traditions are pretty basic. We put up our trees on Thanksgiving with Christmas music or the Macy's Day Parade blaring in the background.

They also get to open one small gift on Christmas Eve. My husband does not understand that and fights me every year on this one but I always win! This is something that we did growing up and I carried it over for my children. I love it.

One of the traditions for New Year was to make a wish while the clock was striking twelve. And then to drink champagne.

Oooo Olga! I love that tradition! I may have to borrow it!
