My Little Rant

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Before Halloween even rolled around, stores were already putting Christmas merchandise on their shelves. I just walked into a store today and they have Christmas Trees up. I'm now starting to see Holiday themed commerials.

By the time Christmas gets around I will be sick of it and I won't be able to remember the real reason for the season. I'll just be ready for it to be over with. Before you know it, Christmas merchandise will start showing up in July. The Holidays are depressing for some, why make them suffer sooner.

When is enough, enough? When are they going to let one Holiday get over with before they start with another? I bet next month you will start seeing things for Valentine's Day.

I will admit, it was nice being able to buy Chocolate Covered Cherries in October. But hey, it was chocolate.

That's my little rant for today. Do you have any?

Morning, BJ!

If it was all about pushing the 'spirit' of Christmas--good will toward men--and all that, I'd be happy to see Christmas trees and hear holiday music all year round! BUT, sadly, it's about businesses pushing merchandise. Christmas is merely an excuse for them to make our shopping guilt-free. I guess it's the same for every holiday, those where we normally purchase gifts for loved ones (like Chrsitmas and Valentine's Day) or candy, decorations and costumes--like Halloween. The sooner they start they 'put it out' there, the sooner and the more we buy. Sadly the true spirit of that holiday is easily lost in the commercialism. I guess it's been going on for a long time though. A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS focuses on just that, and it was written in 1965!

Now on to my little rant of the day...
Drivers who pull out in front of me, causing me to have to hit the brakes, and then they proceed to drive five miles UNDER the speed limit--on a road where I can't pass them.

They couldn't wait until I'd driven past them and THEN turned onto the road??? Don't they know I'm running late for work? Makes me insane.

Good morning BJ,

Actually, I love seeing all the Christmas stuff up. I'm thrilled to be in the mood this year. I don't necessarily feel that it makes me want to purchase things. What it does do is make me think of family. That's just my take. Matter of fact, my favorite coffee shop is playing a Christmas song right now and I have the biggest smile on my face. LOVE IT!

Rant? Really? We get to rant? FANTASTIC! I love a good rant.

My rant is when my desk is covered, people can tell I'm terribly busy and yet they proceed to come into my office and sit down to chit-chat. I've got work to do people! Go find something productive to do!

Hmm. I have no rant for today, although I'm right there with you on the Christmas stuff already out in the stores and the ads beginning on television.

I try to remind myself that the retailers are just trying to economically survive like everybody else.

Barb, Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, just not the commercialism. My favorite part of the holiday is when we have our Down Town Christmas. My girls and I go every year, no boys aloud. We love it.

As for people gathering around your desk, just ignore them, maybe they'll get the message.

I totally agree with you BJ, not enough time is spent focusin on Halloween and Thanksgiving! It's just not right. I just try to avoid it as much as possible until after Thanksgiving, then I go crazy and embrace it all!!

And as far as rants go, I can go on and on about alot of things. Somehow I'm having a hard time thinking of just one at this exact moment, I guess I'm having a good day so far then!!

Hi Taylor, Like you I will embrace it after Thanksgiving.

Glad your day is going well.

I hate how early the Christmas commecialism starts. I'm not doing anything Christmas-related until after Thanksgiving. Though I won't do it because I'd pretty much have to boycott EVERYBODY, I have an urge to write all these stores and tell I'm not doing business with them until they quit this stupid practice of having the Christmas stuff out before Halloween.

And those drivers bug me too, Beth!

Hi Tori, I would love to boycott them as well, but then I wouldn't even be able to buy food.

I also hate the commercialism of Christmas...but I do love to look at all of the Christmas trees and decorations. It makes me smile. But, tonight on the way home from work we stopped at the grocery store. We were greeted by Santa and he even gave us a little snack bag and a bottle of bubbles for my younger guy. I wasn't expecting to see Santa so soon.

What bugs me? The other day, my husband and I were driving home and he changed lanes and while he might have been a little close to the truck we had just passed, he definitely did not cut him off. The guy started honking his horn and we ignored him and drove on. A little further up the road we stopped at a red light and I noticed the guy coming up to us on the right side, VERY close to our van and I looked over and he SPIT on my window and drove off! I was in complete shock and repulsed! So that's what bugs me. Ignorant, immature, disgusting people!

So, Barb. Does that mean you spent this morning in Carabu Coffee? You lucky duck.

As for your rant, I have a similar one. People who SEE you're reading a book or typing a letter (email, whatever) and still try to engage you in conversation. There are variations, of course. Like your swamped desk. I hear ya sista!

Mary, that was a very kind spin on retailers and commercialism. I'm going to try to keep that in mind.

Taylor... No rant? You ARE having a good day. Yay for you. As for your love of Thanksgiving, thanks to your guest blog post at SIS, we'll all get a more detailed view and greater appeciaton TOMORROW. Tune in folks!
