Just One of the Guys

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

For a long time, I have worked with a huge majority of men. My line of work sort of lacks in women personnel. I have always been ok with it, though. I've always said that it just means less drama. Somehow I am looked at as "just one of the guys."

The men I work with will do and say anything in front of me. Everyday I get to hear comments on how hot certain women are. I get to listen to details on the girl that one of them took out (or took home) last night. And heaven forbid someone trying to talk properly around me. They get an "Oh please - it's just Brandy!"

Most men can be really nasty!! I can't even count the amount of time I have had to evacuate an office. This would be to escape the foul smelling "present" that one of them has left behind. Hey I don't do that to them!! Why they gotta drag me into their little games!! ... Which brings me to slug bug. I get slugged like a guy! I know I am a big girl, but come on. Have a little mercy!

I have to make sure I don't truly turn into "just one of the guys." Heck, I even won the football pool the last two weeks. Scary, huh?

When I am off work, I try to do things to help me feel more girlie. I try to wash the guy shenanigans off me. Doing stuff with my girls really helps! Who doesn't feel like a total girl when you're shopping, painting nails, and doing hair? Nice long bubble baths, watching a "chick flick," and reading also do the trick.

Are you "just one of the guys?" What girlie things do you like to do?

Hi Brandy,
I feel for you, being around guys all the time. At least they feel comfortable around you.

The girlie things I like to do is make my own scented bath salts and milk baths. Nothing like soaking in a hot bath with my favorite scents. Makes me feel very girlie.

I work in a place where only 13 of our 78 or so employees are guys. We try not to smother them with estrogen. :-)

BJ,
How do you make your own bath stuff? It sounds great to have your own personalized scents.

Mary Stella,

So you are in the opposite situation. I feel more sorry for those guys than I do myself!!

I think the girliest thing about me is that pink is my favorite color. I'd rather watch an action/adventure movie over a chick flick any day of the week. :) The more car chases, shoot outs and explosions the better!

Brandy,

Just one of the guys, huh? I work in an office full of women and for the most part we all get along splendidly! One of our dentists is a man but he's so used to talking about girl stuff we forget he's not one of us.

I think I'm a good mix. I like to dress up and put my make-up on but I'm just as comfortable in sweats and a baseball cap doing outdoorsy stuff.

I'm a very girlie girl - dresses, long hair, make up, but I think working with guys is awesome (of course, when they still remember that I'm a girlie girl, lol!)

Brandy,

Are you kidding me? What's more manly than swinging a hammer or using a power nailer, digging in the dirt to lay a sprinkler system or smashing in walls for demolition? When I'm at work, I am not surrounded by men like you are, just one man, my awesome husband, but I couldn't feel less girlie while I'm working.

Yesterday my husband tossed a razor knife off the roof for me and for one second, I thought I was a girl and was afraid that it was going to hurt my hands, so I sort of deflected it with my hands and it hit my big toe instead. I can't even explain the pain...I think maybe I broke my toe. Today it is purple. That's what I get for thinking I'm a girl!

Girly is so easy. Sephora, long bubble baths, more Body Bakery bath products than I can probably use in this lifetime and even if I tell hubby they make great last minute gifts no way I'll part with them! I'm also a make up slut. Love to play with make up, try new looks.

Linda,

That is hilarious. A make up slut? I love that. I like to try new looks too, so I'll rip pics out of magazines and attempt to copy the look. Sometimes the results are great. Other times? Yeah, not so much!

I do know I'm getting Sephora's blockbuster make up palette for Christmas. Will I have fun with that or what? Crayons for grown ups!
