Those Were The Days

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

It's amazing how time flies. It seems like just yesterday that I was posing in this promo shot with my big SIS, Beth. We were hot weren't we?! Vinyl and big hair. We were hip too, weren't we? I don't think my eyes see that much eye shadow in a full year these days! And how did I ever get my hair to stand up that high? I know it wasn't Aqua Net...I never liked the smell of that stuff.

I don't remember the year exactly, but I'd say it was somewhere between '89 and '91. We were called B.B. and the Intruders. The B.B. was for Beth and Brenda of course. If I told you what the Intruders were about I'd have to kill you. Actually, Beth's comical husband gave us that part of the name. I wonder if the guys in our band knew what it was all about.

We were a great band, playing mostly top 40 with a little jazz mixed in. I always had a great time performing with Beth. She is an amazing performer. She was born to perform. It came a little harder for me, but I did my best to keep up.

This was a great time in my life. I look at this picture and it takes me right back to where I was and what was going on. Good Times...We had a lot of fun. We laughed a lot. I still hear songs today that we performed with that band and it brings a smile to my face.

Ahh...memory lane. I love to take a stroll now and then. It's nice to remember the past...good and bad. The bad memories remind you not to make the same mistakes and the good memories keep you sane and warm your heart!

What special memories do you have of the past? Maybe a certain time in your life or just a single occasion...

I remember how proud I always was of my big sisters when I was growing up. (I still am!) It was so great to be able to tell my friends about my "famous" singing sisters.

The best part was when you would be singing in Indianapolis. I loved being able to come stay in a hotel with you guys. It made me feel so big and special. The best part was being able to watch you sing a song or two - I couldn't stay very long because I was way too young.

Lately, things have been getting tougher and tougher for me. I have been trying to focus on good memories. It always makes me feel better. It helps me realize that things will get better and many more great memories are to be made.

Bren,

I think it the hair spray was White Rain. Smelled better but still did the trick!

I also remember hanging out with you in Indy. If it weren't for you and Beth, I never would have had the courage to sing in front of people. I'm so glad I did. That (being on stage) is the biggest high!

So many good memories. I remember you and I trying to put together your sons Christmas presents. Perhaps we should have put down the beverages but what fun would that have been?

I remember how we turned my stalker event into doubled over laughs. Who can say that?

"Hey, is that the guy?"

BTW--Brandy, give me a call. I'll make you laugh and forget all about those tough times!

White Rain hairspray... White can with the silver netting on it. Beth taught me well, when I made my hair stand up high. :)

Are you sure it wasn't Rave? I thinks that's what BJ, Barb, and I used. Our hair stood up pretty tall too!!!

Hi Bren, I remember that piture. I thought you two were so cool! I loved when we got to see you in Indy. I think a Star Wars convention was going on at one time. Those people were a little creepy.

Brandy, It was Rave. I think we called our hair-do's Radar Head.

Brandy,

I remember so very fondly when you used to come to Indy and visit. It was very special to me also. I was always proud to show off my little sisters to every one.

I, too, think about happy times a lot lately, so I know what you mean. It does make the day go better!

I can't wait to reply to everyone's comments, but this is just a quick stop home. I must get back to work, but I'll comment later!

What a great pic of the two of you. I remember singing in a band too. Also the first time I performed, I got *stage fright* in the middle of my song forgot the lyrics, sheesh. Thank god the guys were quick to step in and cover it. But it was a lot of fun.

You look like hotties from a Whitesnake video. Love it!

Barb,

Indy was a blast! Remember playing euchre with "Aunt Naomi"? Or was that Brandy?

I don't think I ever used any of those sprays you guys mentioned. I wish I had scanned the pics of the three of you with your hair piled high. Your pics make the front of mine look flat! HA!

I remember putting together those Christmas toys. Remember you sliding down the slide thingy and getting stuck? I'm laughing now just thinking of it! Probably we would have done better without the spirits, but it sure made it more fun.

GET THE BAT!

Thanks for those memories...they mean the world to me.

B.J.,

What do you mean you THOUGHT we were cool. WE WERE and WE STILL ARE!

I loved playing Indy simply because I knew I would get to see my little sisters...

I had forgotten about the Star Trek convention until you mentioned it a while back. That was really cool.

I think tomorrow for your post, you should post some pics of your "Radar Heads". That would be hysterical.

Hi Sia,

The first night I sang with a band I had incredible stage fright. So bad that I had full blown laryngitis (is that how you spell that?) the next day that lasted for a week. I was sure that I would be fired! I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to sing...and I'm glad you had the opportunity also!

Julie,

Thanks for the compliment! I love Whitesnake...maybe we could have been the hot chick crawling all over that car instead of Tawny!

OMG. I've seen Beth in a lot of "incarnations" but never like this picture! WHOOHOO!

Okay, I've had the wonderful pleasure of hearing Beth sing . . . of hearing Brenda sing . . . of hearing Barb, er, Justen, sing. I've heard Beth and JustenBarb perform together. However, I've never heard the three of you perform together. Now THAT's a Sister Act!

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Hello Mary Stella!

Beth, Barb and I did get a chance to sing together. Barb and I were here in Florida and Beth and B.J. came to visit and we all got on stage and sang, what else but We Are Family! Dancer extraordinaire, B.J., also jumped on stage and danced with us. I tried to get her to sing but I got the evil eye so I backed off. She's a little shy about her beautiful singing voice.

It would be great to get Brandy to join in. She has a beautiful voice!

I remember "Aunt Naomi" being in Indy. That was when I figured out what being "gay" was.

I also remember the Star Trek convention. I think that was the same trip when a guy got crappy with dad for using the leg press machine in his jeans and cowboy boots. Didn't that man realize how versitile that clothing was?!?!? It even worked on the beach!!!

And Brenda, if you post a picture with my big hair AND half a tooth i will kill you!!!

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Brandy,

You're right about the jeans and cowboy boots. It was that same visit!

You just made me snort when I read about the big hair AND the half a tooth! You're lucky I don't have it right here or I would post it huge! (Not really...or would I?)

Tori Lennox said...

Wow. You guys just reminded me how big my hair used to be back in the 80s. I can't imagine doing that now! :)

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Tori,

I know. What? Did we have an extra hour every day just to get the huge hair happening? I didn't even have time to dry my hair lots of times!
We'd love to see a picture, by the way!

For Halloween this year my oldest dressed in 80's style. I did her up great. You guys would love it. I was able to get all that hair of hers very 80's like. She was rockin some great blue eyeshadow, hot pink lips, and she even had bright colored socks pulled up over her pant legs!!

Feel like I'm arriving late at the party! Hi, everyone.

Wow, Brenda. Talk about bringing back memories. One of my most adventurous hair colors ever. Total two-tone. I wouldn't do it today. But I still like how it looks here. Although I doubt my bangs always looked so 80s perfect. You look beautiful! Guess what... I still have those dresses!

BB and the Intruders was GREAT fun. We sang with kick-butt musicians--some of the best in town. We had an ecletic and kick butt song list. The best part of course was getting to perform nightly with you. Retired now, I only miss the 'best times' of performing. That slice of heaven is one of them.

Love the comments!!!

Meant to add... Brenda thank you for the kind words. I think I was born to perform--but my voice could never compare to yours. You've brought tears to my eyes many a time. I am have always been and remain i awe.

Brandy, why do I not remember Indianapolis? Was I there? Good lord. So many years of traveling and performing in so many cities. So many a blur.

I do remember having BJ and Barb with me in Elkart, Indiana. They got to stay with me for a few days in the hotel I was perfoming in--a Holiday Inn. They were so young! I remember them being thrilled about swimming in the hotel pool. It was the same week, the same place I met Steve (my husband) and fell head over heels in love. :)

Beth, I remember visiting you. I don't think you were with Brenda. I think it was Indy but you'll never believe what I remember most about the visit... the pizza. We had a cheese pizza with just onions on it. Weird memory huh?

Beth Ciotta said...

Cheese pizza with just onions?? That so doesn't sound like me, Brandy Are you sure?

You know, I'm not sure I ever played Indy. Unless it was an Adam's Mark hotel. Cripes, what's with my crappy memory??

Oh yes, all the hair, styling gel, hairspray and hot rollers.

Beth,

I have other very fond memories of times spent with you way before BB and the Intruders. I remember you teaching me to sing harmonies when I was very young. And I remember imitating you singing "Rub It In". I wanted so badly to grow up and sing like you!

Thank you so much for the compliments on my voice. I can't tell you what that means to me, though I've never thought I was great. But I do love to sing and give me a rock song that I can belt out and I'm in heaven.

And those dresses... you could probably still fit in yours, I'd be lucky to fit that skirt on one of my legs!
