Good Reads

Monday, April 5, 2010

Happy Monday to all. I'm still visiting family in Indiana and we all know what that means...sketchy to zero internet access. Yee-haw. As you can see, I can't even get my avatar up for today. Oh well. If that's all I have to complain about, life is good.

Today, I'd like to recommend a couple of books I've been reading.

Found Beth Ciotta's (yep, our SIS) Out of Eden at the local KMart here. We bought them out after screaming, dancing and woo-hooing in the aisle. Such a fun and exciting read.

I'm currently reading Heather Graham's The Killing Edge and I absolutely love it. It's full of suspense, romance, a cult, ghosts, murder and fantastic characters. A must read!

I also brought my copies of Ms. Graham's Flynn Brothers Trilogy for SIS Brandy to read. She's devouring books and I'm getting a kick out of fueling her fire. Too much fun. Plus, I love discussing books with people. I've thought about joining a book club, but who has the time?

I just had to turn SIS Brandy onto the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. Who can resist Mac and her MacHalo? Come on. For those that haven't read this series, you are truly missing out on one of, if not THE best urban fantasy series of all time.

I am now caught up on Terry Spear's Werewolf Series. I'm eager for the next release. Terry knows wolves inside and out and thankfully shares her vast knowledge with us through her incredible characters and all their intricacies. She makes me want to join a pack. She's that good!

And last, but certainly not least, I'm reading Kimberly Frost's Southern Witch Series. This series is more fun than grits on a Sunday morning, four wheelin' on Friday and a hog roast on a Saturday night. Check 'em out. You'll find yourself in a world full of magick, crazy characters, an enormous "cat" and she even throws in some steamy romance. Well, not just some. The romance is tense, frustrating and oh so real.

Let me know if you've read any of these. I'd love to hear your comments. And recommend a few to us! We're always on the look out for good reads.

Thanks, Beth.

I need to amend my post...slightly. Apparently I've offended the Hoosiers. There is internet access in this state, I just needed an excuse for my lame post! Also, they don't care for my yee-haw, but I refuse to apologize for that as I am a country girl at heart and my day would not be complete without a yee-haw or two thrown in.

So there! I apologize, sorta, to some of those I've offended.

I would like to thank Aunt Barb for fixing that. As a Hoosier I was greatly offended. Just an FYI she is still recovering from the bat that got in last night. That she helped fight, but the biggest hero of the day was Aunt Brandy.

Yeah, my mom was definetly the biggest hero... the woman that forgot her own kid. Yes, she forgot about shae as she ran into the kitchen to hide for her own safety. Also, cowering behind the door and afraid just to open the door to let it out. Good job momma. Good thing larry is good at baseball. He hit a home run and knocked the bat out. Without his swinging skills we would have never got that thing.

As for the actual talk about Barb's post. I don't reallly have any to recommend and of course I have not read any of those books.

Poor bat...Those kinds of creatures always get bum raps and people's first reaction is always fear, then 'kill it!'. Maybe someday all creatures great and small can live in harmony and understanding.

Okay, off the soapbox. Stick to your guns, Barb, and call it like it is! I haven't read any of those books, and I'm currently reading Christopher Moore's book 'Bite Me: A Love Story'. If you like irreverent humor then this is your author. He has several other books out as well and he's definitely worth a read.

Hi Barb

I'm with Chris, poor bat.

I'm reading #4 in the Fae Fever series. Almost done. Read Beth's book. GREAT!!!!

Hi all,

Just made it home safe and sound. Regarding the bat: We would have acted the same way had it been a bird, mouse, or superhero. The bat was an intruder and needed to be removed, especially since we had a house full of screaming, tearful children and some adults. We didn't kill it as some might think. Larry stunned it with a broom, we covered it with a basket, a sheet and then a box (had to be sure it wouldn't eat us) and then we put it outside. This morning we double checked to make sure it had escaped and it did. Yep, bats have a bad rap, but so do most creatures when they're found inside our homes.

Chris, thanks for the book recommendation. I'll be sure to look it up on Amazon!

I don't mind bats but I wouldn't want one in the house. :)

Barb,

I know what you mean about how people react when there's a foreign creature in their house, especially when children are involved. I know whenever Wendy sees a bug in the apartment......Never mind. I can talk to you about the specific Christopher Moore books I've read if you're really interested.

Chiming in late.

1) So envious of the family weekend. Sounds like you guys had a blast. Well, except for the bat. Which brings me to...

2) I'm all about kindness to animals. ALL animals. But I confess, if I'd been in the house with a bat (or even a bird) flying around, I would've freaked. Sounds like Larry and gang handles the bat remval well.

3) Bless you guys for your kind words about OUT OF EDEN. *sniffle*

4) Elle, AWESOME recs on the books. AS you know I'm a huge fan of the Fever series. You've perked my interest with many others mentioned!

5) Just now I'm reading 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckell and Mr. Hyde'. Yes, the classic. It's for research purposes, but that said, it's pretty darn riviting. I'm reading on my KINDLE and am so glad for the 'dictionary' funtcion. They used a lot of words then that we don't use now.

Happy reading all!

Glad the bat survived and at the same time I'm with you on, "remove the intruder by whatever means are necessary"! I love God's creatures great and small but if a scorpion or a land crab infringes on my turf, war has been declared!

Great book recommendations. I'm excited that Out of Eden is showing up everywhere. Beth, I finished reading it last night. LOVE the final version!

Count me among the big Fever fans. Wish I knew a release date for the next installment!
