I'm currently working on a story proposal that I'm incredibly excited about. One aspect concerns the heroine's desperate need for solitude. I knew with blinking where she'd spent most of her life. Wyoming. Last fall, Barb/Elle and I spent an amazing week in that beautiful state. One thing that continually amazed us: The solitude. Miles and miles of nothing. Miles and miles of natural beauty.

Here's a line from my proposal....

I cracked open the Red Bull and looked out my kitchen window, at the vast expanse between my isolated cabin and the Grand Teton mountains. I soaked up the beauty and serenity and braced for a storm.

Here's a pictureof Barb and I after we hiked 3 miles UP. The beautiful mountain behind us are the Tetons. Ah. Inspiration.

I love the contrast of enjoying the serenity and braced for trouble. Says a lot about who your character is.

I've been up in that area, gorgeous! Traveling around the country, I've seen some beautiful remote areas that make your heart hurt with the beauty.

I find inspiration in all sorts of things, some very simple, some not. I do pull them into stories.

I remember everything about that trip. I try to get that feeling back when I talk walks with the kids. Not quite the same.

I agree with Sia. I also find inspiration in many, many things!

Thanks for sharing, Sia. And very well put. 'Places that make your heart hurt'. I know that feeling well. Another place that stirred and stunned me was the Grand Canyon. Looking forward to going back someday!

Barb/Elle, that trip was one for the memoy books and, thanks to you, I have a very special 'memory book' indeed!

The Grand Canyon is simply awesome, and even that's an understatement. The Badlands in the Dakotas are definitely something to see as well. I've been to so many different states but there are still so many places I want to see.

Hi Beth

Wyoming looks like a place I would love to visit. I enjoy solitude and the quiet sound of nature.

I like the contrast of serenity and storm, too. Beautiful picture, btw! One of the places I'd like to visit one day is Grand Canyon, too. And NYC!
