Let the Games Begin

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

I love games. Any kind of game really. I love board games, strategy games, card games, trivia games, brain games, word games… you name it, I probably love it. I mostly love the challenge of figuring things out. It gives me great satisfaction when I can figure out “whodunit” before anyone else while playing a game of “Clue”.

I also love those word jumbles in the newspaper and playing along with “Wheel of Fortune”. One of my favorite game shows is “Cash Cab”. It’s a trivia game played in a NYC taxi cab. The host is hysterical and the questions range from basic knowledge to “who in the world would know that?”.

Both of my sons enjoy playing games too. Family game night can be a real hoot at our house. I tend to get a little competitive and it seems to be rubbing off on them, so sometimes the emotions can run a little high, but all in all, we have a great time.

The “Cranium” games are great fun and of course the classics like “Uno” and “Sorry” still bring me great joy. Happy and I have found a web-site full of brain games that we enjoy playing. I think it’s http://www.gamesforthebrain.com/ . Check it out if you get the chance.

What games do you enjoy? Do you consider yourself to be a competitive player? What T.V. game show would you like to play and win the big bucks?

Today, I’ve jotted down the beginnings of some famous quotes and leave it to you to finish them. Be as creative and unique as you possibly can. The best one wins nothing, but I hope you’ll have fun playing along, he he…

If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back…

A bird in the hand is…

You can lead a horse to water, but…

If at first you don’t succeed…

A bird in the hand is probably pretty messy.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him take a bath.

If at first you don’t succeed pack up your toys and go home.

Brenda,

I pretty much like all board games, like Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Risk, Sorry, etc. I especially like trivia games like Trivial Pursuit, and I have a trivia game based on food that's called 'Eat It'. Some dice games, like Farkle or Yahtzee, are also fun. Do you remember the game that we played in Riviera Beach that Richard and I were good at?

Here are my quotes:

If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back…catch another one and don't let it go!

A bird in the hand is probably looking for food.

You can lead a horse to water, but it could probably find it by itself.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving isn't for you.

Tori,

Those are great! They put a huge smile on my face. I especially like "If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back, delete his/her number from your call list."

Very clever! Thanks for playing along.

Chris,

I remember playing a board game called Taboo with you. Only I thought you and I were partners against the married Jamie and Wes and we were kickin their butts. Do I have it wrong, and if I do, who was my partner?

Loved your quotes. My favorite from you is
"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving isn't for you."

Thanks for joining in!

Hi Bren

If you love somehting, let it go. If it doesn't come back...you're better off.

A bird in the hand is...not the same as a million bucks.

You can lead a horse to water..but it probably wants beer instead.

If at first you don't succeed...give up.

Brenda,

I'm gonna go with your recollection on this one. I do remember being partnered with someone and kicking Jamie and Wes's butts so that had to be it. I'm not sure how Richard figured in there, but I'm gonna try and forget. LoL

I know I'd much rather have a million bucks in my hand than a bird!

Oh, and I definitely would like to hang out with the horse that prefers beer to water.

Chris,

Richard probably was there and maybe it was different game, I'm not sure. But if it was trivia, I'm sure he was good at it.

That was a fun time and I'd love to sit down and play some more board games with you. Maybe when one of the SIS's come to visit, we could have a get together and have a brutal game night with you and Wendy!

Does my face look extra huge to anyone? I think I made my avatar too big.

Brenda,

The avatar does look a bit big, I think. We'd love to have a game night some time as long as you're not too much of a sore loser :) It's never too soon to start the smack talk!

I can so hear you asking, "Does this avatar make my face look big"? =)

Okay, Brenda, here's my totally lame endings to your quotes:

If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back… what'd you expect, dummy?

A bird in the hand is… mighty good fried chicken.

You can lead a horse to water, but… I wouldn't advise trying to lead a cat.

If at first you don’t succeed… try reading the instructions.

I like games too, Brenda. Scrabble ranks as my favorite (and almost any other kind of word game). I also like Monopoly, checkers, Trivia. Oh, and I almost forgot about Charades, which can be so much fun when you have the right group of kindred spirits playing.

If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back…get a new one. It so wasn't worth it.

A bird in the hand is…unhygienic

You can lead a horse to water, but…why do that when you could ride it.

If at first you don’t succeed…cuss.

Alyson,

Ooh, I like that one. And now, I'm hungry. I could go for some chicken wings!

I don't think your endings are lame at all.

My family plays a game called Guesstures. It's a lot like charades and so much fun to play. We laugh hysterically at the boys as they act out the words.

Thanks for your contributions!

Barb,

"If at first you don’t succeed…cuss." I think that should be my husband's motto. Maybe we could put it on our business cards.

And by the way, have you seen "Idol" yet? WOW
