Scared Much?

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

There are many things that just really scare me and freak me out. Some of them are the big things like worrying about something bad happening to my kids and such. Today, I am talking about the little things though.

I hate spiders. They give me the willies. Any kind of them!! I can't even watch shows about them because I am guaranteed to have a horrible nightmare that night.

Same goes for snakes. They just seem evil to me. The way they look, the way they slither around, and thoses fangs..... oooh makes my hair stand up just thinking about it!!

Bats really get me too. That's probably because a few have gotten in my house. They make me so nervous. My stomach instantly curls into the tightest ball ever.

People have all kinds of phobias. Some are about creatures like mine are. Other people have a fear of heights, closed spaces, the dark.... the list can go on and on.

What are you scared of? What makes you get nervous, gives you the creeps, and makes your stomach churn?

Hi Brandy

Hate spiders. Love snakes, bats and mice.

I have social and driving phobias. Okay with hieghts but scared of some tight spaces.

I have a thing against shell macaroni. Makes my stomach churn just to look at it. It even sounds gross when being stirred.

Ooh, I hate spiders too, Brandy! Couldn't agree with you more on that one. To me they're ten times worse than a snake because at least a snake can be spotted fairly easily, but a spider can crawl under the covers, unseen, at night and bite the heck out of ya. NOT a nice thought.

I haven't really given a lot of thought to bats. Probably because it's been years since I've been very close to one.

Don't like looking down from heights. Gives me vertigo and seriously makes me break out into a cold sweat. Ironically, I love mountain climbing and gazing at the panoramic beauty around me - as long as I don't have to look straight down. Also, stairs make me edgy sometimes. Depends on how steep they are. I think I've watched too many movies where people fell down stairs and broke their necks. Gruesome. What's even funnier about both of those fears is that I live in a two story house. Height + stairs. Go figure. lol

I wouldn't say I have a phobia of creatures, just don't love them. I don't mind heights, it's just the fear of falling from them that scare me. But I wouldn't mind falling from a high spot by my own will, like sky diving or bungee jumping. I guess my biggest fear is public speaking or being in front of a huge crowd on my own. I get sick to my stomach if I have to be infront of a lot of people. Maybe that's why I sucked at giving speeches in school.

Spiders, snakes, tornadoes. And I'm not terribly fond of heights either.

Spiders, snakes and bats? Like them, and even owned a tarantula at one point. I've seen and handled many snakes in my lifetime as well, and if you can get past the initial apprehension they're okay. Not that it's easy to do, mind you. When I was a kid there was a bat that had decided our screen door was a good place to spend the day so I've even seen one of them up close. Kinda cute, in a weird way. And they eat mosquitoes, so there's a plus.

I don't have many fears, fortunately. I used to fear ending up in a wheelchair permanently, which is possible in my particular case, but I don't think about it nearly as much as I used to. The thought of being buried alive scares the hell out of me, as does the thought of being burned to death. Luckily, I hardly think of either one.

I guess the most realistic fear I have is that someday the extremely radical part of a political party, and it doesn't matter which one, will end up in complete control of the country. Now -that's- scary.

Brandy,

I don't love spiders, snakes, bats or mice, but I can deal with them. Maybe not Krys's tarantula, but other than that, I'm not too much of a freak.

My phobias are much more morbid. Like Krys, I fear being buried alive. I can't imagine anything more horrible, except...my children being stolen, molested or killed. I told you...MORBID. Every time I hear a story on the news, I end up imagining that it happened to my family. My heart starts racing, I hear the roar in my ears and so on and so on. I'm so bizarre!

Elle,

You're not bizarre, you're a mother that loves her children. Your fear is normal, in my opinion, and if it makes you a more careful and attentive mother than you can't be faulted for going there. I went to a motivational speaking seminar today and one of the speakers was John Walsh, and he really made his story hit home.

Krys,

Thank you. I appreciate that. I would love to hear him speak. How timely that you saw him today.
