Siblings

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

First, I would like to start by thanking B.J. and Brandy for stepping in this past week and doing an incredible job! It was a pleasure to have them here at SIS and I'm hoping they'll be regular guest bloggers. Feel free to jump in any time sistas!

Second, I'd like to welcome back Beth and Barb, the adventurers! I'm sure they'll have a few great stories to share with us. I'll bet they are glad to get back to civilization where they can get adequate cell phone and internet service.

Now, on to my ramblings....

My sons are 6 1/2 years apart. I didn't really plan it that way. It's just how it happened. At first, my oldest was excited about his new brother and was great with him. Now, it seems as though they fight constantly. It is a rare occurrence that they should actually get along with one another. The oldest is constantly picking on the younger and the younger seems like he really enjoys trying to get his big brother in trouble.

I have told them constantly that they should learn to appreciate one another. I've tried to explain to them that friends will come and go. Even life long friends may some day desert you for one reason or another. Your parents will eventually be gone, you may even separate from your spouse. But your sibling is your sibling. No matter what. And they will be there to support you and listen and help in any way they can.

Of course, there are exceptions. But if you treat your siblings with the respect that you would show a friend, you will have a life long relationship that is so important on so many different levels. I know that my sisters and brother are there for me always. It doesn't matter if sometimes life gets hectic and we don't talk as often as we should. There have been times when I have gone months without talking to some of my siblings. But when we get on the phone and catch up, it's like we never lost touch.

I just wanted to take the time to say how much I love it here at SIS. How much I love most all of the siblings getting involved and sharing little parts of their lives! If there is a blessing at all in the tumultuous summer that we have experienced, it is that we have become closer as a family and I am thoroughly enjoying it!

So, sisters and brother, I love you very much and I am sorry if I was ever mean to any one of you. But seeing as how I am the perfect child, (and the prettiest) it was probably all of you being mean to me, and I forgive you!

How important is your relationship with your sibling(s)? If you are an only child, would you want to have a sibling? If you have siblings, did you ever wish you were an only child?
Have a very blessed day!

Hi Brenda, It seems that my two girls fight all the also. There are a few occasions where they can get along all day. I love those days.

I really enjoy the SIS site. It gives me a chance to catch up on what is going on with your lives.

I LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Hello Aunt Bren,
Becca and I still have those days were we fight but in the end we get along again. We share some of the same friends we go to the movies together and just hang. I don't know if it is because we are in the same age range or what lol but we get along and it is nice. It is so nice to get on this site and see how all my aunts are doing.

Love all you guys!

Hi everyone! It's good to be back here at SIS.

I remember fighting tooth and nail with BJ our entire childhood. (except when we snuck out of the house) But now we get along splendidly and all the fights made for some great memories!

I know Bren's boys will be very close as they get older. SIblings are very important and they will come to see the value of their relationship.

One thing...I think it's important to correct the record here! I AM THE PRETTIEST!!!!

Where is everyone today? I got here late and figured I'd have a lot of reading to do.

Brenda, I love having so many siblings. Many of my best memories are of things I have done with you guys. Life would be so boring without all of us!!!!!

I have always found it so amazing how different siblings can be. Our family is a huge example. There is 7 of us and I don't think any of our personalities are real similar.

Don't have to thank me for filling in. I had a good time. Love You

Hello all! The trip was inspiring, but exhausting. I'm thinking it will take me two weeks to catch up on everything here at home and work. But it was worth it! Many thanks to Brandy and BJ for filling in. You gals were fantastic!

Brenda, I seem to remember fighting with my siblings (at least the older ones) quite a bit as I was growing up. I think this is something that shakes out a bit as you mature. I'm betting there will soon come a time when your handsome boys develop a genuine friendship... just like us! Hang in there!

Hi B.J.,

I guess the fighting thing is normal. It just drives me nuts sometimes!

I love it here at SIS too. Not only because of family stopping by, but also because of all the others that frequently stop by and comment. I love hearing the opinions, the stories, everything our readers share!

Hi Michael,

So nice to hear from you. I think it's great that you and your sister share some of the same friends. And I'm glad you get along!

We love you too!

Hi Brandy,

I just thought maybe you were ignoring my post since I didn't get your music pick up yesterday. Or maybe you're mad because my SIS avatar is HUGE and I only put a little one up for your day. (honestly, I didn't mean for mine to be so big)

I love having a lot of siblings too. I wouldn't want it any other way. I have very fond memories of every sister and of course the mischevious brother!

Love you much!

Hello Barb,

Glad you're back! And I'm glad you're not too shy to admit that you are the prettiest. Can we at least agree that I am the wittiest. (is that even a word?)

I remember you and B.J. fighting, but I always assumed it was because you were so close in age. It's great that you have a great relationship now.

Hi Beth,

I always say the same thing when I come back from a vacation. I need a vacation to rest from my vacation. Happy that you both had such a great time!

I'm sure the boys will get past it, and oh how I welcome that day! They are great boys!

Welcome back! (sweet one)

Welcome back to Beth and Barb! And that was one sweet post, Brenda! Unfortunately, I don't have a sibling, though I've always wanted one...
