The Middle of Nowhere

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I feel like I am in the stone age this week! I am in Oklahoma in a teeny town of only 1800 people. It took me all morning to get my computer to log onto the internet.

This place is in the middle of nowhere. It is so small that there isn't even a Mcdonald's here! I thought every town had one of those!! And there is no Starbucks, Walmart, movie theater, or even a bowling alley. The town pretty much consists of the dealership I am at and a gas station with an old diner in it. I think there may be a grocery store somewhere but I'm not positive.

I have lived in the country most of my life, but I couldn't imagine living somewhere like this. Don't get me wrong, it is a pretty area. I would go crazy though. There is absolutley nothing to do. I bet the families around here make lots of babies! That's the only entertainment they have!!

Would you like living in such a remote area? Could you be happy without all of the conveniences we are accustomed to?

Great question, Brandy. Sometimes I wonder if life would be better that way. We'd have to come up with ways to entertain ourselves. But I don't think it's for me. I need to be somewhere right in the middle. Not too much, but just enough!

Make sure to take some pictures and share them with us!

Brandy,

No way! LoL I think I could stand it for a vacation but not on a permanent basis. I could probably also do it longer if those conveniences were within driving distance.

I'm wondering if the 'town' you're in is in the process of dying out. A lot of smaller towns across the country are doing really poorly and are slowly dying out. I've heard a lot about it but have never seen it in person.

Hi Brandy

We don't have a Walmart or a Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm not sure which one I would rather have. We could use a skating rink and putt putt golf here as well. Other than that, I don't mind small town life.

LOL!!! I DO live in a remote area like that! Our town's population is even smaller than where you are. But I have high speed Internet and satellite TV, thank goodness (or I'd go insane). We don't have a McDonald's but we do have a Subway, a Mexican restaurant, and the pool hall (which is now a restaurant but it used to be a pool hall, hence why everybody still calls it that), and two quick shops. And we're getting a Dollar General store at some point. *g*

I had to laugh at this post, Brandy! For some reason the theme song to the old show 'Green Acres' is running through my head right now.

I live in a pretty small town, but I used to live in an even smaller town about 15 miles away. Nineveh has one gas station, a feed store, a pizza eatery, a hardware store, and a hair salon. That's it. To get to the main highway, the residents have to drive around Camp Atterbury (military homeland security), often getting stuck behind slow-moving convoys. It was a beautifully scenic area, but VERY inconvenient.

Nope, I wouldn't wanna go back to that again.
