Making the Time

Monday, May 24, 2010
What an incredible weekend! Great weather, a lot of work, a lot of fun and the payoff? Priceless. I'll admit I'm pretty sore, but I/we managed to pull every weed, mulch every bed, pull up an old fence and even take time for some fishing. At the end of each day I was exhausted and it felt good. I loved being outdoors with the family. As Beth mentioned in her post, the creative well runs low at times and sometimes, if we're lucky, it's just the little things that fill it to the rim.

Even though I could barely keep my eyes open, I wanted to write. I needed to move words and phrases around to maximize the effect. My word count may not have been high, but I was productive. I wonder if I would feel this way all the time if I lived in a warmer climate? Hmm...

I'm currently reading The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter. I've just started, but I'm already hooked! Reading is one more way to fill the creative well and also has the added benefit of making me a better writer. A chance to learn while completely enjoying myself. I'll take that opportunity any day of the week.

The following pictures are from this weekend. The first is another one taken at an absolutely gorgeous pond where we had the chance to fish and bask in the sunshine. The other pictures are what caused my back to ache...

Fishin' made easy! The trout were practically leaping onto the dock. Gotta love that!

I love hostas.

I don't have too many flowers blooming yet, but this proves it's bound to happen!

And now it's your turn. Share a small thing that helps you to relax and/or fill your creative well.

What fills my creative spirit? Taking a great photo, a big of gardening (note to self: do some, reading certain blogs. And books of course... :-)

Mary Jo,

I really had to force myself to do the gardening. I'm so glad I did. I may not be my cup of tea, but the reward is beautiful.

Hi Barb

A walk nature walk and the sound of a stream relax me. A warm, scented bath is also relaxing.

Hey, it turned out beautiful, Elle! See, busting your butt for it was definitely worthwhile.

Now if only you could coach ME how to landscape, so I could compete with Greg's gardening skills!

BJ,

I'm with you. I love the sound of a stream. I may have to get myself a nature CD.

Thanks, Alyson. Definitely worth it. Now I just have to keep at it so the weeds don't take over again. Oh, don't try to steal Greg's thunder!

Thanks, Tori. Now do me a favor and keep your tornados away from my house!

Wow! When you said you'd 'Gone Fishin' I thought it was a metaphore of sorts. But you did it for real! Glad you had a fun day away and filled that well.

Your garden looks fabulous. Loved the pics. Now I am duly mortified and inspired. Making plans to attack and revitalize my own gardens!

Beth,

I'd help you if I lived closer. Take one day and do it. You won't regret it and you'll be amazed what it does for your creativity! Don't forget to share pictures. Before and After.

Great pictures! Your garden looks splendid.
My creative well refills from reading a book, watching a movie, or going for a flight... or really anything that is a pleasant escape from the real world.

Berinn,

I can really picture you up there with your goggles on, your scarf blowing in the wind. Oh, that's right. You don't wear a scarf. But that's the image I keep having and I'm going with it. Do you use your knowledge and love of flying in any of your stories?
