The Good Stuff

Friday, January 8, 2010

Pursuing and maintaining a writing career can be tough to be sure. I've bemoaned my hectic schedule plenty here at SIS. Meeting deadlines can be a bear. Competiton is fierce. The economy is in the dumper. Traditional publishing is in a tailspin. Sometimes one can get so wrap up and overwhelmed with the business that they forget to celebrate the good stuff. Today, I'm sharing the good stuff.

Behold the cover of my upcoming release: Out of Eden!
Pretty, huh? And kind of sassy doncha think? I'm really pleased with it. Covers are so important. Occasionally readers choose a book simply because they're wowed by the cover. The back cover blurb is important, too. I'm hoping readers are wowed enough by the 'package' to peek inside. Once inside, well, they're in for a wild ride. Hopefully one they'll thoroughly enjoy.

Good stuff.... Although the official release date for Out of Eden is April 1, 2010, you can pre-order a copy now!

More good stuff... Out of Eden features a dog, Shy, who I based on my real-life dog Cheyenne. While you're waiting for the release of Out of Eden you can meet the quirky characters through Shy's eyes. Visit her blog, Barking at Eden's Door, and meet a new character each week for the next few months!

More good stuff... I can't remember if I mentioned it here, but I have a brand new spiffy website. Special thanks to Rae Monet of Rae Monet Inc. Designs for her awesome work. Please hop over and tour my new home!

Wow. It felt really good to share my good stuff! What about you? Share something good. Anything at all! Let's wallow in the positive!

Special note: A loud and merry shout out from SIS to Mary Stella whose celebrating her birthday (yesterday) all month long! Good stuff!

That's great stuff, Beth.

My good stuff? I realized last night that what I wrote the night before was complete drek. So funny that you don't know it until you return to it later. What's good about that? I was writing and hopefully, I'll be able to go back, later and salvage it.

Happy Birthday, Mary!

Very good stuff, Beth. I've been to your web-site and it looks great! Congrats on another release.

Happy happy birthday, Mary! I hope your birthday month is outstanding.

Good stuff? I guess every day is filled with good stuff if you know where to find it. Yesterday's good stuff was watching Happy "rock out" to a song while we were in the car. He should be a comedian.

Great cover! I love seeing your success.

Good things? Great visit with my daughter over Christmas. A dog who makes me laugh and gets me out walking her for exercise (but NOT when we're having record cold here). Scrumptious tea made with loose tea leaves using a porcelain strainer. New coaching clients. Central heating. Where do I stop? So much to be happy about.....including the success of friends like you.

Thanks for the birthday shout-out, Sisters!

Beth, good for you to celebrate the good stuff. Onward and upward for you, my talented friend.

You know that old saying "Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff"? Maybe we can turn it around. "Shout out for the good stuff. There's always good stuff."

Great cover Beth!

Rae designed my website too. Isn't she awesome?

Barb/Elle, Nora Roberts has a saying. Can't remember the exact wording, so I'll paraphrasing.

"I can fix a bad page, but I can't fix a blank one."

Or something to that effect. *g*

I've written entire scenes or chapters, only to roll my eyes at them the next day. Sometimes they just have to be fleshed out or polished. Sometimes I have to scrap them. The important thing is that I wrote--drek or not. Working your writing muscles is never a waste. You're honing your craft. GOOD STUFF!

PS: Thanks for visting Shy's blog!!

Whoa--what a gorgeous cover, Beth!! And woohoo on your upcoming release! April's just around the corner!

And good stuff? I finally put on my big-girl panties and tackled putting together a rudimentary resume. Then I badgered my poor brilliant husband into fixing it for me. So now at least I might sound employable, even if I'd much rather be doing laundry (than interviewing). :D And we just put our Christmas stuff away! Woo! And it's Friday!

Definitely always good stuff!

Beth Ciotta said...

*waving to Fedora* So great to hear from you!And you're right. April will be here before I know. Trying to kick some promo into gear for OUT OF EDEN while awaiting the revisions on INTO THE WILD, plus creating a proposal for a whole NEW story. This year I'm determined to juggle projects whilst maintaining BALANCE! Wish me luck!

As to you, kudus on writing the resume. I've had to create a resume a few times in my life. Those suckers can be tough. But you did it. Yay for you! Sending you positive vibes as you launch into the job hunt. On top of everything, you got the Christmas decorations put away. Another goal tackled. GOOD STUFF!

Beth,

I posted a comment earlier but I guess it didn't go through? Oh well, I'll be happy to say this again: That cover ROCKS! I'm especially happy cuz after you and I have analyzed previous covers I know what to look for, and what I see is all good news! This is another terrific cover, HQN treats you well. Congrats on this book and congrats on the new website design - I love it, it's the best version yet!! What great news to start off 2010 with, I can't wait to see what else is in store for you Beth!

How exciting, Beth!! If anyone can pull off the project juggling with some grace and humor, it'd be you! Go, girl!

Thanks for your encouragement, too--I'm sighing with relief and looking forward to some laundry tomorrow :)

Beth Ciotta said...

Taylor, doncha hate it when blogger and FB eat comments. Boo-hiss. Thanks so much for re-typing your message. You know how much I love analyzing books and movies with you. Thrilled you're giving this one the thumbs up!

Hey... you forgot to mention your 'good stuff'. There's always something good with you. Spill!

Fedora, I'm not sure I've ever known anyone 'looking forward' to doing laundry. You're one of a kind. :)
