Cafe Chaos--Music

Tuesday, July 14, 2009
SIS Barb says:

Lately I find myself a little behind the times but better late than never. Right? I vaguely remember my pick this week getting some “buzz” at the music award shows early this year but I was too busy to give her much notice. Until…I stopped at my favorite coffee shop yesterday morning and heard a song. It sparked a memory but I couldn’t place the voice. I kept humming the tune so I could ask my girls at work who it was. Apparently my humming wasn’t good enough (gasp) or the song wasn’t very popular because my girls were no help at all. So—I googled a phrase—low and behold I found it! They said “Oh that song!” I guess it was my humming.

My Pick of the Week: Adele

She is an amazing British singer and she's only 19 years old. She describes her music as “heartbroken soul”. I agree with her whole-heartedly. She won two grammy awards in 2009 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Both were well deserved in my opinion. Her song “Chasing Pavement” is the most popular to date although many on the album are superb. Her voice…sultry, smooth and soulful. I downloaded the entire album yesterday and I’m loving it.

Recommended Album: 19

My Favorite song: (sorry guys, it’s too soon to tell)

SIS Bren says:

I admit it. I'm an American Idol junkie. I can't wait for each season to start and watch every single episode. Yes, even the ones at the beginning where they waste your time showing you all of the crazy and really bad singers. For me the excitement starts when they get through Hollywood week and the real competition begins. It's interesting to watch how these singer grow week after week. Sometimes, the winner is not my favorite.

My pick of the week: Daughtry

I loved him on Idol and I love to listen to him and his band on the radio. Great, down to earth songs. Nothing fancy, just good, melodic music. I haven't heard all of the songs from their first album, but I do enjoy the ones I've heard so far. A new album is being released today.

Suggested album: Daughtry

Favorite songs: It's Not Over, Home

SIS B.J. says:

I love to dance. Whether I'm on the dance floor or in the kitchen cooking dinner, if there is music, I'm dancing. My children get a kick out of watching their mom dance. They tell me I'm crazy.

This week I am choosing my favorite dance song. You play it; I will dance.

My pick of the week: I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

Released in October, 1978 and still one of the top dance songs of all time.

Good morning!

Bren,

Great suggestion. I was listening to the radio on my way to work this morning and a Daughtry song came on. My thooughts...he can do no wrong. It reminded me a little of Matchbox Twenty. Every song they released was absolutely GOLDEN!

BJ,

Someday you'll have to show me that kitchen dancing!

Not only is I Will Survive one of the top dance songs, but it's also one of the top karaoke songs! People sing it all the time.

Barb,

Just listened to Adele. I love her voice. Great pick.

Bren,

What can I say? I love Daughtry. I was so dissapointed when he was voted off American Idol.

I was watching a marathon on the Sci Fi Channel (I refuse to use their new stupid name) yesterday of a show called Special Unit 2 and the boss was driving on his vacation and singing I Will Survive at the top of his lungs. *g*

Interesting, I've never heard about Adele. Need to look her up.

Daughtry is amazing. It was a total shock for me as well when he was voted off. But with his success, he's a winner - in my books, anyway!

And I Will Survive is one of the all time fave songs.

Hi Tori,

Your not the only one who hates the new name for Sci Fi. Have you seen the new logo?

Hi Tori!

I Will Survive is everywhere!!!!

Still not happy about the name change on Sci Fi, huh?

Hi Olga,

I think it was better for Daughtry that he didn't win IDOL. No silly contracts for him. He went big time!

Yo Barb!

I know I have heard Adele. I just can't quite get her voice in my head right now. I must youtube.

I agree with you about Daughtry. He probably is better off not having won IDOL.

Next time we're in Indiana together, we must go by the Parker residence and peek in the windows so we can get an unabashed version of the kitchen dancing...hehe

Hello B.J.,

Do you know how many times I have sung that song? It seems like a bazillion! But you're right. It's a great song that everybody, especially women of course, loves to sing and dance to. I would get requests for that song almost nightly.

If you see someone lurking outside your kitchen window next week, don't be afraid. It's just me with a video camera!

Hi Tori,

Okay, I'm curious. What is the new name? I could try and find it on my guide, but alas, I'm too lazy.

Hi Olga,

Who was your favorite on IDOL this year? I really liked Danny's voice but he seemed a little awkward when he performed. I'm hoping he'll put something soulful and fun out!

The new name for Sci Fi is just so silly and their reasoning makes no sense whatsoever.

Bren, they've changed their name from the Sci Fi Channel to SyFy. It just makes my inner editor want to scream, not to mention it's not going to net them new viewers like they seem to think. They CLAIM they wanted a name they could brand/market of their very own. But I don't see the History Channel complaining about not being able to trademark the word "history". *g*

I can so picture us dressed in all black creeping around Adams Street in Peru, Indiana peeking in BJ's windows. I'm not worried at all about her Rottweiler and Bulldog eating us! LOL But fun it would be. Chances are I would pee myself laughing.

Barb,

I will have to tell Draco that you insulted him by calling him a Rottweiler. He's a Doberman with floppy ears.

B.J. said...

Bren,

You sneak around my house and I will have to send out my attack cat.

Sisters-in-Sync said...

BJ,

Rottweiler, Doberman? What's the difference? Okay there is a huge difference but in my defense, I've never met Draco so he still may eat Bren and I!!!

BJ,

Your cat doesn't scare me. I'll just bring Mom along as a distraction. He loves to kick her butt!

Tori,

Thanks for the info on the name change. You're right. It's silly. Maybe they should have gone with SighFigh!
