Cafe Chaos--Music

I have this fantasy of singing a duet with a few choice male singers. Some that make the cut: Josh Groban, Jason Aldean, Brian McKnight, Justin Timberlake and Elvis. Okay, the last one may never happen but I still have a chance with the others. When (not if) it happens, I’ll be screaming “I TOLD YOU SO!” to many folks out there.

My Pick of the Week: Any and all timeless duets. Whether for love or fun, there’s no better sound than the sound of two voices melding together. Not all vocalists click musically, but when they do…you have a hit and occasionally they make a song together that will withstand the tests of time.

Recommended Album: It Takes Two: Classic Duets by various artists

My Favorite Song: I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) by Aretha Franklin and George Michael

SIS Bren says...

It's pretty common knowledge that I love a voice with some grit in it. I also love a good melody and harmonies. I love a song that I hear once and know instantly that it will be a hit and that I'll be singing along to it every time I hear it.

My pick of the week: Nickelback

I don't think I have heard a song from Nickelback that I didn't like. There is something very catchy about every one of them. I love his voice and I love the harmonies. They are commercial but still rockin!

Recommended album: Dark Horse

Favorite Song: If Today Was Your Last Day (I haven't heard the whole album yet, so I'm sure I'll have other favorites as well.)

SIS Beth says…
Last summer when I started power-walking (I really need to start up again) I loaded my MP3 player with music that would inspire me to pump my arms and pound the pavement. Music that would distract me from the fact that I was sweating profusely and gasping for air. That entailed everything from dramatic Celtic music to classic rock. Classic rock for me translates to the music I listened to when I was in my 20s and 30s. Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Steely Dan, and . . .

My pick of the week: The Doobie Brothers
(Note to readers: I had to laugh when I uploaded my rec to SIS, because I started with the exact same sentence as Bren--except for the group's name. Leaving it, because it's just too weird!)

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Doobie Brothers song that I didn’t like. From their earlier hits like “Listen to the Music,” “Long Train Running,” and “Black Water” to the later years when they featured Michael McDonald and songs like “Minute by Minute” and “One Step Closer”. Their repertoire is vast and impressive. Great melodic, rocking songs. Excellent musicianship and stunning harmonies. The music overall? Timeless.

I was so busy yesterday I didn't get over here. So this morning, armed with a cup of coffee, I've come to get my Sis fix. :-)

Music. You know? I can live without quite a few things but music is not one of them. I have eclectic music taste and it's largely mood driven.

I think one of my favorite Duets Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers Islands in the Stream.

I'm also a big fan of Celtic Music. I love Celtic Thunder--some wonderful songs.

Fleetwood Mac for sure Beth and Loved Steely Dan your choices were remind me of hot summer nights on the beach when I was a kid.

Bren, I absolutely love Nickelback. I'm with you, I don't think there is a song I don't like. I think my favorite is I'd Come For You & Gotta Be Somebody. But I also like Papa Roach's Metamorphosis, couple favorites on that one-Nights of Love and Live this Down.

Hope y'all have a great day!

Hi Sia!

Too funny! I almost picked Islands in the Stream. Definitely one of my all time faves!

Thanks for stopping by,

Just bought a new album yesterday and I'm endlessly in love with it. It's called "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" by the French band Phoenix. They're an alternative band who dabble alot in synth's and such, but they stay true to the rock band roots (bass, drums, guitar). Their one single, "Lisztomania" is an extremely jubilant song you need to blast in your car - that's the only way to appreciate it!

Here's the youtube link in case anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrbGpvOulec

Keep the good choices coming girls!

Hi Sia,

I, too, love "Islands in the Stream". I guess I love duets in general. I'm also a Fleetwood Mac fan. I love the song "Big Love" which Lindsey Buckingham performs by himself. It is amazing to me what that man can play on the guitar...and then to be able to sing at the same time! I'll steal Taylor's idea and give you the youtube link.

Hi Taylor,

WHERE did you even hear about this band? I was curious, so I jumped right over to youtube to have a listen. I LOVE that song. There is just something very catchy about it. I think you're right about needing to blast it in your car. I really love their sound and I can't wait to hear more. Thanks for the rec!

I'm still on a huge Big Band binge. Love Sirius/XM's 40s on 4 channel. Though since my current heroine is into Celtic music, I ought to be listening to that. Too bad there isn't a Celtic music channel. :)

Hello Sisters!

Barb,

I fully believe that you will someday be singing a duet with anyone you please! You have an amazing talent in your voice...I love to hear you sing. There are a few people I would like to sing a duet with, but alas, it will never happen. I don't think Stevie Wonder would want to listen to my "Oh God I'm so nervous, why can't I make my voice stop shaking?" performance.
But I do love duets!
Beth,
I also love the Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and Steely Dan. I have been fortunate enough to see Steely Dan twice in concert. WOW. I love to see a live show where the performers sound just as amazing live as they do on their albums.

Have an incredible evening!

Sia,

I'm such a huge fan of Celtic music. How can I not know about Celtic Thunder? I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the rec!

I liked what you said about your musical taste being mood driven. I guess it's sort of like that for me, too. On the other hand music can also drive my mood, if you know what I'm saying.

Thanks so much for you sharing!

Taylor, my man, you rock! I slipped over to the You Tube link you provided and was utterly charmed! I'd never heard of "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix'. Thanks so much for turning us on to to the group. What a treat!

Tori, I love big band, too. Are you fond of the oldies? Like Glenn Miller? Or more into the current bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy?

As for celtic music... try Clannad, Enya, The Chieftains, Celtic Womenr...or, as Sia recommended--Celtic Thunder. *g*

Barb, I love duets, too! So many great ones out there. Here's an obscure one: Cruisin' - Huey Lewis, Gwyneth Paltrow. Yeah. She can sing. Or at least well enough to make this one work. ;)

As for you, keep the faith sister! My money's on you and Josh.

Bren... Re: Nickelback. Everything you said.

Taylor,

Okay...play it loud going down the freeway, driving at least 80 mph with the windows down OR a slow Sunday Drive on a winding road in a convertible with a scarf tied around my neck! Don't ya think?

Barb, I think if that you truly believe in something, it's going to happen - and I'm particularly in support of your duet with Josh Groban.

Bren, Nickelback is awesome!!!!

Beth, power-walking? If you lived closer, I'd suggest starting up together and being each other's motivation!

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Hi Olga! thanks for the my duet support!

So where do you live? Are you closer to me? Maybe we can power walk but I doubt if anyone else lives anywhere near this Frozen Tundra!

SIS Barb

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Yes Olga!

Where do you live? I could use a power walking partner!

Bren - Catchy is the perfect word for them. I'm not sure what is the first thing that catches my ears but I can't turn away.

Lori - I've recently been obsessed with Sirius radio, isn't it just great?! I'm always tuned into the 70's station!

Barb - Those are the only two ways you can do it, there's no in-between!! Lucky for me, I already own the convertible! Once it's out of the shop (long story) I'll be making sure to be riding around, blasting it 24/7 until everyone knows about this CD haha.

Beth - I'll let ya borrow the CD if you want :D. And btw, I agree with you - the Heuy Lewis/Gwyneth Paltrow duet IS awesome! I remember that from awhile ago, I always loved their rendition of it.

Tori Lennox said...

Beth, I like the oldies mostly, but some of the newer ones are good too.

Beth Ciotta said...

Olga, you would be the ultimate walking partner--er--along with my sisters, of course. Dang the distance!

Tori, they don't call them 'oldies but goodies' for nothing!

Taylor, I would indeed like to borrow that album. Curious as to the rest of their songs. ;)
