Under Pressure

Saturday, August 28, 2010

When it came time to brainstorm for today's blog, I came up with what I thought was a good topic. Then I read BJ's post and that took care of that. Great minds think alike, I guess. So that left me with Plan B. Unfortunately I didn't have a Plan B. Undaunted, I thought about my life and what's going on with me at the moment that I could blog about.

Nada.

So I perused the local and national news stories for some gem that I could post that would spark endless conversation or lively debate, or both.

Zilch.

Still not giving up,  I thought about the television shows and movies that I've seen lately, and the books I've read. Surely that would inspire me to write at least a halfway decent Blog.

Nope.

It's now Friday night and I'm left with that sinking feeling that no matter what I do, I'm not going to come up with anything good. The dreaded creative block. So I'm going to do what I normally do and make the best of the situation, for what it's worth. As a creative person, which I believe we all are in one way or another, what do you do when you want/need to come up with an idea or inspiration to be creative and it's not happening?

Krys,

Actually that's a great question. One would think that the easiest thing to do is to be imaginative. As we know, that's most certainly not true.

We could get drunk and see if that helps. We could meditate.

But what really helps me is to ask others what interests them, or to take a very small idea/topic and what-if it in my mind until I get to the point where it is interesting.

Ah. Writers block. Only two things help me with that. A brisk walk or a brisk shower. I don't know what it is, but some of my best ideas occur when I'm in the shower. The water pounding on my head must break apart the block! Also a walk or (sometimes a drive) helps to clear my head and suddenly I'm having the most interesting thoughts. Weird.

Hi Krys

Great minds do think alike. I find that cooler air makes me more creative. The cooler it is the more my mind flows with creative energy. Being out in nature helps a lot too.

Water gets your emotions flowing. Fresh air stirs up the mind. The sun(fire) warms up the creative juices. The earth you walk on grounds you to the task at hand. And of course spirit(passion) is doing the things you love.

BJ,

You are, of course, right about the Elements and their effects on us. They can be subtle, but no doubt they are there. I also love the cool crispness in the air during Fall, assuming that we actually have a Fall to begin with.

Elle - If being drunk or medicated helped I'd be the most creative person here!

Beth - Actually we're both weird then because I also find that taking a shower helps clear my mind and helps me think. The important question: Hot or cold?

Krys, you managed to create a blog post about not having anything to blog about. Two thumbs up! :)
