Holidays

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I started to think about all of the Holidays or just Special Occasion Days you find on the calendar. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather receive a card or a bouquet of flowers from my husband on an ordinary day. I’d know that he was thinking of me and just wanted to do something nice for the heck of it. Not that he wouldn’t be thinking of me on Valentine’s Day, but it’s almost an obligation that you get that special someone in your life at least a card on Valentine’s Day.

There seems to be a day for just about anything. Secretary’s Day, Boss’s Day, Sweetest Day, Mother-in-Law Day, there’s even a Bathtub Party Day. There’s a National Ice Cream Day and a National Lemon Cupcake Day. Who decides on these things?

So, I was thinking, if I could create a day for the nation to celebrate, or at least the people who have nothing better to do, what day would I create? What would I want to celebrate? Maybe it would be something silly like mismatched shoe day. Every one would wear the most outrageous, crazy combination of shoes they could think of.

Or maybe it would be bed head day. Every one would just get up in the morning, brush their teeth and then take no further actions to make themselves look presentable. I know some days, my hair is quite hysterical in the morning. It would be fun to see just how awful every one else could look.

What would your day be? And would you create greeting cards for that day?

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Hi Bren

My girls have pajama days at school. I let them go in P.J.'s, slippers and of course bed head. I think we should have National Pajama Day.

Ooh, I like National Pajama Day! Although there was one day at the grocery store when I saw a woman in pj pants, tank top, no bra (she seriously needed one) and fuzzy slippers. Very scary.

I have a lot of pajama days. Those days when I'm on deadline and write from early morning to late night without stopping. So a pajama day wouldn't be so special for me.

What about a "Be Good To Yourself Day" where you only do fun things or healthy things--like a double feature at the movies and then maybe a trip to the spa. Facial, massage, manicure? Yeah. That sounds good. :)

Hi Bren,

Hey Linda! Thanks for the visual. Niiiiice!

You all are being way too obvious. I vote for "Tell People What You Really Think" day and oh yeah, there would be greeting cards!

Could we have a National "Do Nothing Productive and Not Feel Guilty" Day?

Naturally there would be no special celebrations and no cards because those would be, well, productive.
