HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDY!

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Today, February 17th is SIS Brandy’s birthday! She is number 6 in the line of siblings. I remember the day she was born. I remember our poor brother, our only brother, being so hopeful that this time he would get a little brother. But alas, another girl was born. He didn’t mind though.

I was so excited. We had been tossing names around for weeks. It had to begin with a B. We were all Bs. Beth, Bob, Brenda, Beverly (B.J.), Barb, hmmmm? What would our mother choose for the next name?

I don’t even know what we might have picked for a boy’s name. But I do know that the name that I chose for a girl won! I had a friend when I was in first grade named Brandy. She was smart, sweet, pretty and popular. I always thought it was a beautiful name. So Brandy it was. I won’t divulge her middle name, but I chose it to rhyme with mine so that our names would sound the same. Hey, I was like 12 or 13, I guess I thought it was cute.

It seems that Brandy has been teased about her name over the years though. I still love it, but I think she probably would have picked a different name for herself. I think most of us would pick a different name for ourselves. Barb blogged about this topic over at SIS Beth’s blog last year and I found it interesting how people feel about their names.

But, anywho, today being Brandy’s birthday, I thought we could name her and then she could choose which she likes. Not that she’ll be changing her name, but I thought it would be fun to see what other people might choose. Choose a first and middle name. The middle name can be anything, but the first must start with a B. Oh, and you can’t choose Becky, that’s our mom’s name.

I’ll go first…. Bianca Drew

So….Happy Birthday to SIS Brandy! We love you very much and I hope your day is as beautiful as you!

Awww! Happy Birthday, Brandy.

I think I will choose Babette Frangelica.

Yeah, that's a great name. Just flows off the tongue, don't you think?

AWWW thank you so much! I love you guys!!

My first name isn't so bad. I have always been so proud to tell people that my big sis Brenda named me. Now when you put the middle name with it, I sound like a hillbilly. That's ok though.

This will be fun to see your ideas. If someone comes up with a good enough one maybe I'll use it here! Bianca Drew... not too bad. Babette Frangelica... no way!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Brandy!!!

I think you shoul pick Brigette Rae.

Bridgette means The Exalted One.

Rae, like a ray of sunshine.

We could all bow down before The Exalted One and be blinded by her radiant light!!

Thanks BJ!

I don't thinks we will be seeing anyone bow to me anytime in the near future! Good thinking though!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDY!!!

Personally, I love the name Brandy (and the woman who owns it). But hmm... Let me see. What about Bernadette. We could call you Bernie. Or hey, maybe Buffy. Heh. Yeah. Buffy Jo.

Have a fantastic day my beautiful, smart and funny sister!

Happy Birthday, Brandy! How about Brooke Camille or Brianna Rose?

SIS Brandy said...

Chris,

Oooh... Brooke Camille sounds pretty sexy!! Good choice.

Chris Behrens said...

Glad you like it. I don't know why, but when I looked at your pic above I got the sense of a combination of toughness mixed with softness and sensitivity. The name "Brooke" to me is a strong feminine name and "Camille" to me is a very classical lady-like name, so to speak. Does that make any sense? I know what I want to say, it's just a little difficult at times to get the idea across effectively.

No way! Brooke Camille? Babette Frangelica is soooo much better!

Babette Frangelica sounds like the name of a courtesan from the movie 'Moulin Rouge'!

SIS Brandy said...

Chris,

I like that... "toughness mixed with softness and sensitivity" that is so me!!! It makes complete sense

SIS Barb said...

Excuse me, I think I just threw up!

Love ya, sis!

Uh... not for anything, but... Brandy, Bambi, Bridgette, Bernie, Buffy, Brooke.... What are you doing on line ON YOUR BIRTHDAY? Shouldn't you be, um, celebrating?

;) SIS Beth

Beth does have a point...And a pretty good one at that!

Brandy's depressed because I'm not there to celebrate with her. Geez, people. That's a no-brainer.

Happy Birthday, Brandy. I think your name is lovely, but I remember going into third grade and several of my female classmates got to chatting and we didn't like our first names. Our teacher was a sweetheart, so long as we signed out LAST name to any work turned in, she allowed us be who ever we wanted. In retrospect, smart teacher.

I was Cynthia--I thought it was so cool THEN. And NOT Cindy for a nickname, had to be Thia--seeing a pattern here? Given name is Sylvia, my family has always called me Sia.

I've always loved, in the B's: Brianna, Brigid (Bridget), and Bettina.

Beth, I am pretty lame, huh? It's all right I am about to put the girls to bed and have me a nice big bloody mary!!

SIS Brandy said...

Sia,

Thank you for the birthday wishes! Long ago, I worked with a lady names Bettina. She is the only person I have ever seen with that name.

This is a day late (I'm always behind), but I hope you had a great birthday, Brandy!

I think your real name is cute. Just like Bren, I also had a good friend in school named Brandy. And I was known as Mandy, which some people still call me. We felt 'special' because our names rhymed.

Playing the name game, here's one for you - Bailee Kianna. Barb should especially like it. I had her Bailey's Irish Cream in mind.

Amanda,

I can't believe I didn't think of Bailey. You know me too well. Bailey's coffee anyone? I guess not before work, huh?
