The Hills are Alive

Monday, June 15, 2009
Hi! So glad you could stop by and check us out.

I’m Barb a.k.a. Justen a.k.a. Elle J Rossi. The latter being the name I’ve chosen to write under—probably. I am the youngest of this group of three sisters but number five out of seven children. To say I'm honored to be among these lovely sisters of mine is a gross understatement. They are two of the most beautiful and talented gals I know.

But let's get back to me seeing as Mondays are my day! I contemplated long and hard about what our first topic would be and after racking my brain…I surprised myself considering I’m much more Mary Poppins than The Sound Of Music, but still, I thought—what better way to get to know people than to find out their favorite things. So, I’ve decided to list some of mine—in no particular order—and hope you will let us know some of yours!

* My family and friends . . . All of them! But especially my husband and two children. We’ll call my daughter “drama” and my son “comedy” for future reference. Oh, the tales I will share. Priceless!

* Coffee . . . Yes, I admit, I-am-a-fiend! A habit I have no desire to break! Flavors, flavors and more flavors!

* Books . . . I can’t stop myself. I usually read 2-3 books a week and I don’t check them out from the library. (sorry, Beth) Why? I don’t want to give them back! Oh, and it kinda weirds me out that so many people have had their grubbies all over ‘em.

* French Fries . . . Duh, self-explanatory.

* Hot, hot days . . . I live in Wisconsin. It’s freakin’ cold here!

* Thunderstorms . . .
Pure energy.

* Country Music . . . A big Yee-Haw w/great friends and it reminds me of my dad, whom I miss immensely.

* Writing . . . It’s an escape, a get away, a far off land

* Laughing . . . The doubled over, wetting your pants kind!

* Dogs . . . However, I don’t have one. We’ll discuss my plot to get one later.

So . . . these are my Top 10 and I remind you, their order strictly depends on the day! I would love to know your top three (at least) and please, make sure to introduce yourself first! Next week, we’ll talk about my new endeavor…Writing.

Bonus time! Beth is giving away three signed copies of her books (your choice of title) on Monday and Wednesday. All you have to do is comment to this and Brenda's posts. Winners chosen at random. One book per winner. You can view your choices by clicking here. Hopefully, you like romantic adventures. If you don't, maybe she can convert you.

I thank you for dropping by and hope you will visit again and again. But remember to grab a cup of coffee first! This should be fun!

Ah, the early bird gets to leave the first to comment... or something like that.

Love the launch post, Barb. Your fave things made me smile. Here are three of mine (in no particular order).

COFFEE ... I am a java bean fiend. Drink it black. Better to enjoy the flavor. Stronger the better!

ENGLAND ... I must have lived there in a past life. When I visit there, I feel like I'm home. New fave town. Canterbury.

ANIMALS ... I have lost a few of my beloved pets over the years, but they all frolic in my heart and dreams. Presently my two dogs, Nia and Cheyenne, and cat, Sadie light up my life. They make me laugh and that's priceless.

That's it for me! Next...

I get chills when i read the word sis, as i believe in the extraordinary strength that sisters have when they are together! . I am thrilled with your work here girls! As soon as i get a minute away from the jungle (my kitchen) and the gorillas (my 2 sons and husband) i will read more. Felicidades!

I'm one of two sisters too, and I have three daughters, so I soooo believe in the power of sisters! I don't know what I'd do with my sisters!

Let's see, my favorite things. . .

Family-- no one can make me laugh like my family.
Food-- some people eat to live, I live to eat. I'm including alcohol and chocolate in this catagory for obvious reasons.
Books-- The only thing better than having a book to read is being on a beach with a drink and a book to read.

Looking forward to reading more blogs from Beth's sisters. She's an awesome person so I'm sure y'all must be too!

Hi Cat! Thanks for dropping by. I totally agree about the food thing! And the book thing...the only thing better is having a friend who has also read it so you can chat and debate all about it...with a drink!

Goodness! The world is indeed and seriously blessed! Speaking of faves, I've just found another, since sis has been a fave since that miraculous smile first curved -- you know, she has everyone at the first hello. Anyway, to all of you, best of luck, sounds like this is going to be a wonderful place to visit and smile and feel relaxed and happy. Break a leg to all of you!

Waving madly to Cat--a fabulous friend with some fabu faves. :) Love that you included alcohol and chocolate in your food group. Chocolate has been a very good friend to me these past few weeks! Speaking of... where's my Hershey's Almond bar?

Hi, Sisters. Great first post, Barb!

I don't have sisters who are blood relations, but I have several women whom I consider sisterfriends. My life is blessed because of these women and other friends.

Among my other favorite things? My family. The view from my porch. My dogs, dolphins, and other animals. Books, books and more books. Chocolate.

Sometimes I get to enjoy several of these things at the same time . . . relaxing on my porch with family or friends and the dogs while eating brownies. Ahhh, bliss!

Heather,

Thanks so much for dropping by. I hope I won't embarrass you by telling you I am a HUGE fan, but I am. Hope to see you back sometime!

Miss Mary!

Big waves to you too! So glad you stopped by and took a break from your Bejewel or whatever that game is.

I hope one day I can see the view from your porch. Isn't it nice how I invited myself?

Great blog! Three fave of mine: family and friends as well (btw, waving to Beth!), writing, and being able to wake up in the morning and look forward to the new day (tfu-tfu-tfu).

Woohoo, Barb! Great start to the SIS endeavor! :D I'm thrilled that Beth, Brenda, and you are able to share this latest effort and just that you've got the sisterhood, period. I adore my sister, and you're even more blessed because you've got five! (I'm sure there were moments when that didn't feel too much like a blessing, but I imagine the blessings far outweigh the non-blessings!)

Hmmm... top three?
- family and friends (and can I say that I'm looking forward to hearing more stories about "drama" and "comedy"!?)
- books--I do borrow from the library sometimes, but often I just want my own copy to keep forever :D I figure as far as addictions go, this one is relatively harmless, unless I manage to knock my TBR over onto myself, in which case I'll need to send up a rescue flare...
- food--French fries go without saying, and ice cream, sushi, and chocolate; plus mashed potatoes with real gravy, good pizza, chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake... ahem. Sorry! I'd better stop now.

Anyway, happy Monday! Thanks for bringing me a smile on the first day of the work week! :D

Thanks for the well wishes, Heather! Another fave thing of mine--my wonderful friends. Oh, and being a part of the Slush Pile Players (otherwise known as Heather and friends on stage!) Who can be seen in action on YouTube. :0)

Fantastic list of faves, Fedora. As for checking books out of the library vs buying books... I do both. But I have to admit, since I started working at the library I have started borrowing research books instead of buying them. I only have so much room... and money. :)

Great first post, Barb!
Some of my favorite things are family, action/adventure movies and books (romantic comedy, romantic suspense, contemporary romance - I'm seeing a trend)

First and foremost, should I remember to comment Wednesday also, I want books 2 and 3 of the Chameleon Chronicles --- got surprisingly and happily hooked by the first one, which Sherry gave me. To your request,I may have a Top-10, but I can't think right now; so I'll give you those three you asked for:
1) Performing --- never has been anything better, never will be anything better. A few things come CLOSE, SOMEtimes, but....
2) Family -- though constantly far apart, we are constantly close. They have NEVER let me down.
3) My Dog, Biscuit -- my Best Friend, my Sanity (such as it is), my Anchor. He has helped me through one of the hardest periods of my life, and I'm sure he will continue to do so ... as long as he gets a Teenie Greenie every time I come home!
This is a GREAT idea, Ladies! Good luck; look forward to keeping up with y'all.

Sisters-in-Sync said...

Big waves to Richard!

You are dead on about performing...there is no better high!!!!

Oh, and I'm jealous that you have a dog!!

SIS Barb

Beth Ciotta said...

Yes, Richard. You should post on Wednesday too. :)

High five on the performing and family angle. Bang on.

I love that your dog's name is Bisquit. So cute! And I know what you mean about his unconditional love and support. Poor Barb. She's still struggling to even GET a dog.

Don't be a stranger!!

Good morning Justen and sisters! I am Justen's co-worker and look forward to following your blog! I also love a favorite things list, and I thought yours was great. I also am with you on the other post about music, country all the way!! Although what about Lady Antebellum?? Sugarland is good and all, but......Just kidding, anything country is fine by me! Some of my favorite things include being with my hubs and dog, entertaining friends and family, and exercising. I look forward to this blog and think it's a great way to share your collective talents. Good luck!
