I hate being sick...but there is one good thing about it. It affords me time to catch up on some movie watching. I was lucky enough to catch not one, but two great movies this week. I'd never even heard of these movies, but was intrigued by the descriptions of both.

My Pick of the Week: The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

From IMDb: Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins.

I'm never quite sure whether or not I am an Owen Wilson fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed him in this movie. Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman were equally great.

Hi Bren!

Sorry I didn't post. But you know how Peru, Indiana is! That movie sounds great and I've not heard of it either.

Hope you're feeling much better and love you bunches!

Hope you're better soon, Bren!

Similar case: My "morning ritual" during the week usually includes a couple episodes of "West Wing," breakfast and LOTS of coffee. When "West Wing" can't be had, I surf. Today I came across a movie I had never heard of and was enthralled through the end.

"The Power Of One," a 1992 film based upon the riveting book by Bryce Courtenay relating the story of an English boy growing up in South Africa during WWII and the onset of Apartheid. Through a series of extraordinary events, the boy, played in adulthood by Stephen Dorff, "becomes" the mythic "Rainmaker," the one who brings peace to all of the tribes in the face of brutal prejudice and oppression. Also stars Morgan Freeman, Armin Mueller-Stahl, John Gielgud, and (in his first movie role, as a cruel white-supremicist employed by the local police force) a 24y.o. Daniel Craig (DEFINITELY un-Bondlike!)! INTENSE drama.

I'll keep an eye out for "Deejarling;" heard of it, never seen it.

Richard,

"The Darjeeling Limited" was on HBO I believe. I'll have to watch for "The Power of One".

Taylor,

Ah...now I won't have a movie for next week. I'll have to make time for another! It was a film from 1990 called "Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael" starring Winona Ryder and Jeff Daniels. I quite enjoyed it. It was also on HBO. (Or maybe one or both were on Showtime, but I'm pretty sure it was HBO.)

Thanks for the get well wishes. Luckily it was just a one day thing of feeling under the weather.

I really enjoyed that movie and I loved all of the bright colors in the scenery!

Brenda, I just watched that movie on HBO. I thought it was very funny in some parts and sad in others.
