Taking the Plunge

Saturday, September 18, 2010

I like to sing. I also like to think that I can carry a tune in the shower or sing along to the radio with the best of them, which most likely isn't true. Although the thought of it is appealing on the surface, the one thing I haven't done yet is sing in public in front of a crowd. Not even once. The closest I've ever come to it is singing "Happy Birthday" at parties along with everyone else that was there.

It's not because I've never had the chance. I've been to Karaoke with friends more than a few times, and hung out with Brenda and Elle for several years while they were performing and could have probably begged/bribed my way on stage. Not once did I take the plunge, although I did briefly run the sound and lights for a band, so in addition to not singing I had the distinct pleasure of trying my best not to make -them- sound bad.

The reason I've never done it is simple: I'm chicken. Stone cold stark raving chicken. There, I said it. As much as I like to sing and the thought of a room full of people clapping in approval for me is appealing, I just can't bring myself to do it. I get too nervous and don't think I sound that good. Maybe someday I'll get up the courage and go for it, but not likely.

What artistic/creative endeavor that you haven't tried would you most like to try? Why haven't you tried it yet?

Wow, Krys! That is a great question.

Before I answer, let me start by saying you definitely could have bribed me. I would've let you on stage for the mere cost of that drink I use to love. I tried googling it, but I can't find it. I know it started with a "Z". It was clear and in a beer bottle. I thought it was Zina or Zena?????

You wouldn't have had to beg or bribe Bren. You just have to look at her and say please.

Now back to your question. I would love to be able to paint beautiful pieces of art. I haven't tried it because I can't even doodle. Therefore, I'm pretty sure my talent does not run to that end of the spectrum. No abstract for me. I'd like to paint landscapes and people and animals. ~Sigh~

Elle,

The drink you're thinking of is Zima. I pretty much knew that all I had to do was ask, but like I said, I was chicken. I'd like to be able to paint non-abstract pictures, too. And I have to ask: If you haven't tried, how do you know that you can't? :)

I'm way too shy (yeah, I know, nobody online believes that) to get up in front of an audience to do anything.

Well, singing is not at the top of my list because I can't even carry a tune. Not even in the shower. ;)

I've tried drawing, painting and writing - I'm so-so.

Pottery would probably at the top of the list to try. I think I haven't because I'm not really gentle with things and so I'd probably end up with clay all over the place! LOL
