Musical Hindsight

Saturday, July 10, 2010

I was listening to the radio in my car this afternoon and they announced an upcoming concert by a band that I listened to and liked back in the good old days but never saw live in concert. I won't say exactly when that was, but suffice to say that it was during the heyday of so called 'hair metal' bands.

It got me thinking about all the different bands I used to listen to and have seen live in concert. There are quite a few, but unfortunately almost all of them were in the last ten years and not when they were in their prime. My wife and I together have seen Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Judas Priest, Tesla, Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio,  Alice Cooper and Collective Soul, and my wife has seen Poison, Three Dog Night and B.B. King by herself.

I don't regret seeing any of those bands past their prime, but there are many more that I never got to see live in their heyday that I would have liked to: Pink Floyd, Rush, Iron Maiden, Journey, Foreigner, Aerosmith, and the list goes on and on.

What musicians/bands would you like to have seen in their prime? What was your favorite concert?

I desperately wanted to see Def Leppard back in the day but my parents decided that was the perfect time to go on family vacation. So no DL for me. I did get to see Styx's Kilroy Was Here tour which was a lot of fun. I would have loved to have seen Huey Lewis & the News back then too. I wasn't as much into the metal bands (except for Def Leppard). I did see Black Sabbath back then but I actually went to see Quiet Riot who opened for them. *g*

Tori,

How was Quiet Riot live? They were pretty good in the studio but I always wondered how they sounded live. Styx was another one on my list.

Although their prime time was their only time and before MY time, the three people I would have killed to see were Janis Joplin, Jimmi Hendrix, and Elvis Presley.

I saw Pat Benetar and Cyndi Lauper in concert way post prime time and both of them were INCREDIBLE!!

My all time favorite concert.... Bette Midler. My hero. :)

Beth,

I like how you thought out of the box to answer the question...I hadn't really thought about people that were performing before my time. And I'm jealous, I LOVE Pat Benetar! My wife would love to see Cyndi.

Hi Krys,

I would have loved to see Boyz II Men, Journey and Celine Dion during their prime. Actually, I'd love to see Celine anytime. To me she is the ultimate in vocal perfection.

My all time favorite concert: Tim McGraw and keith Urban. Same night, same stage...AMAZING!

Barb,

McGraw -and- Urban together? Wow! It doesn't get much better than that!

As I recall Quiet Riot put on a good show. And Styx was awesome!
