Could Someone Hand Me A Towel, Please

Monday, July 5, 2010
It's been planned for months. We've talked about it, counted the days and now it's finally here. Our family vacation! We try to take one a year and many times will either pick SIS Bren or SIS Beth's states because we rarely get to see them, plus they have the added benefit of living in places where there's tons to do!

This year we chose "The Sunshine State". A few days with Bren, a few days with Mickey (mouse) and a lot of fun in the sun. And now, I'd love to share a few pictures of our vacation so far:

I kid you not! It has been raining relentlessly. The sun has forgotten to shine. We drove to the beach yesterday for a little sight seeing. The rain started to pour so hard, we could barely see to drive. We (meaning my husband and I) have decided just to laugh about it, because really, what can we do? For me, it's just great to spend time with my sister, her husband and my nephews. My children, on the other hand, are a little peeved and a lot sad. I'm trying to teach them to have more positive attitudes, but I really do understand their disappointment.

I just hope Mickey's house is a little drier.

How about you? Any vacation stories to share?

Elle,

Rainy vacation stories? How about sunny California where we had huge amounts of rain, mud slides, floods and still saw incredible sights because of the weather. And the memories? We were with my brother and his wife who live there and my elderly mom we brought with. One of the last times she shared a vacation with us. Too precious for words.

Treasure the moments and I hope Micky and Minnie bring the sunshine. :-)

Mary Jo,

It is all about creating memories that last a life time. I can imagine how it must have felt to share that vacation with your mom. Makes me teary just thinking about it.

The kicker is that we had one of our rare weather perfect weeks here. Now the mugginess and threat of rain is back.

At least you had a good time with your family.

Edie,

That's right. No matter what, at least I have my family!

Hugs about the rain, but I do agree. It's all about being with the people you love.

I feel your pain. It rained when we took a trip to Florida when I was a kid. Crazy!

Thanks, Olga! The rain let up for about an hour, so we were able to take the kids to a spray park. Too fun!

So, Tori, were you a crabby kid when it rained or did you keep a positive attitude?

Rainy vacation story:

When I was about 10 my family and I spent a weekend at a campground at Walt Disney World. Major rainstorm, campground flooded, sister stepped on a soda can tab and sliced her foot pretty bad.

To play devil's advocate here, the rain here is always needed or else people complain about brown lawns and watering restrictions. You can't win either way.
